Sensory Garden |

During his last year as the Headteacher, Mr Les Staves, made contact with the 'Wooden Spoon Society', a charitable organisation that provides funds for projects such as our 'Sensory Garden'. Planning the Garden began in 1996 when our pupils were consulted on what such a garden would include. School staff and parents, the local middle school and Mr Seamus Corr from the Kirklees local authority was all involved in the project at some stage. After many months of being only a paper plan and a series of drawings, work started on the Garden during October 1998. Despite many setbacks, including the wettest October for many years, the Sensory Garden was finished on the 5th of December 1998. The centrepiece is a pergola, which in 5 years time will be covered in a range of climbing plants to provide an area of shade for our pupils to sit in. Other areas of interest include wind chimes, paved areas and borders planted with aromatic plants. The 'Wooden Spoon Society' has been very generous to the school. As well as providing the money for the Sensory Garden, they have visited us several times, on one occasion bringing with them a famous local celebrity, Debbie Lindley, a Yorkshire T.V. weather person. The Society raise funds in many different ways, during December they hold a lunch, with guest speakers in Leeds. This year they kindly invited all the support assistants to attend. (We hope a good time was had by all!) |

Computer Software |
We have developed Microsoft Power Point to provide pupils with programmes to help with numeracy, literacy, computer skills and even games. With a simple adaptation to the mouse, a large switch can be connected, so all children are able to use the computers what ever their capabilities. We have chosen Power Point because it is widely available on school, home, and office computers. This will allow programme files written in school to be available for home use, thus extending the learning period. Programmes can be personalised to the individual's needs introducing up to date pictures, photos, sounds and music of your child's preferences. For any help or advice contact Alan or Mark, as there seems to be endless possibilities. |
